The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) primarily comes in two formats:
- TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test): This is the most common version, assessing reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. It’s taken online at designated test centers.
- TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test): This version is less common and is offered in locations where internet access is limited. It assesses reading, listening, and writing but does not include a speaking section.
In addition, there’s a TOEFL Junior test aimed at younger students (ages 11-15) to assess their English skills. Each type serves different purposes and audiences.
TOEFL Scholarships
ETS, the organization behind TOEFL, offers scholarships each year to support students who have taken the TOEFL and wish to study at one of the approved institutions worldwide.
